Menopause can usher in a variety of unwanted changes, including hot flashes and mood swings. While you may have been prepared for these familiar symptoms, you may not have been expecting some of the other changes “the change” brings, such as vaginal dryness and urinary incontinence. From her innovative practice in Dumfries, Virginia, Dr. Zerline Chambers-Kersey is pleased to provide MonaLisa Touch® laser treatments to help patients in the Prince William County area address vaginal dryness and other menopause-related symptoms. What is MonaLisa Touch?

MonaLisa Touch is a new, advanced treatment that uses fractional CO2 laser technology to rejuvenate the tissues that line the vaginal canal. In addition to being a safe, gentle, non-invasive alternative to treatments that involve surgery or prescription medication, MonaLisa Touch is an effective way to address vaginal atrophy and prevent its aftereffects.

In just a few short treatments, MonaLisa Touch can help restore:

  • Trophic balance to tissues
  • Normal vaginal function
  • Pain-free sexual intimacy

During the procedure, Dr. Chambers-Kersey uses a vaginal probe to ease the laser into your vagina. There, it emits gentle pulses of painless laser energy into the vaginal wall, where it activates the production of new collagen and revitalizes the vaginal mucosa.

Is MonaLisa Touch right for me?

MonaLisa Touch laser therapy is intended for menopausal women who are experiencing vaginal dryness or any other vaginal or urinary symptoms caused by hormone-related changes.

The treatment is as effective for women who have gone through natural menopause as it is for women whose menopause was induced by a hysterectomy. It’s also one of the only viable options for women who can’t safely receive hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

Dr. Chambers-Kersey uses MonaLisa Touch to help address:

  • Vaginal dryness, burning, or itching
  • Painful intercourse
  • Stress urinary incontinence
  • Chronic urinary tract infections
  • Vaginal laxity, or loose tissues

MonaLisa Touch also may be a good option for women who experience long-term vaginal dryness and other hormone-related symptoms following childbirth.

How long does the treatment take?

A single in-office MonaLisa Touch treatment takes less than five minutes, and the average woman needs only three treatments to see optimal results.

Each treatment is scheduled six weeks apart to give your body’s healing mechanisms enough time to rejuvenate the treated area; a typical course of three treatments takes 18 weeks to complete.

What can I expect following treatment?

Many women report significant symptom relief after just one treatment, and further relief with each successive treatment.

As a painless, non-invasive therapy, MonaLisa Touch has virtually no side effects and doesn’t require any down time, meaning you can resume most normal activities immediately.

It is recommended, however, that you refrain from having sexual intercourse for two or three days to allow your vaginal tissues ample healing time. Depending on your individual situation, Dr. Chambers-Kersey also may give you additional post-procedural instructions.

Some women require annual follow-up treatments to maintain their results; Dr. Chambers-Kersey will let you know if annual treatments are best for you.
